  04" GETTING 10mpg

So I recently changed the oil, belts, air filter, fuel injectors and I hooked up the computer and the sensors passed all the tests.

The car is under 50k and I don't drive it aggressively...

Any thoughts on why my car is running like an SUV?

Have your plugs checked. Its definitely not the air filter, there's studies that even going to a clean air filter doesn't change anything. I dunno what its like changing the injectors, but have those checked too, maybe?

This has been discussed many times. I don't think its your spark plugs. Take a 3-400 mile trip, ie Vegas for a weekend. Fillup before leaving, fillup again in Vegas, & fillup on return.Use cruise control. Divide gallons into miles traveled for each fillup. I'm willing to bet you'll see a substantial increase in MPG proving its not the plugs?

Bumper to bumper traffic, short trips, constantly starting and stopping will kill your MPG.

1. What was your mileage before all the changes?
2. Why in the world did you change your injectors?

BTW, is there an emulation program for the Infiniti diagnostic equipment that will run on a laptop? In the VW/Audi world, there is a product from Ross Tech that completely emulates the diagnotic computer the dealer uses. Actually, it's got a much better interface that interprets and presents in English the various DTCs. It'd be great if I could get something like that for the Infiniti.

Gas in your area can have an effect as well..

I usually get 19mpg on the G35 and 30mpg on the Versa. (City/Highway Mixed, Miami Traffic)

I always refill both cars the same day @ the same Costco Gas station. (Pay Day)

Well last week I only got 16mpg on the G35 and 25 MPG on the Versa.

-3 MPG on the G and -5 MPG on the Versa

This Week I got 22MPG on the G35 and 35MPG on the Versa

+3 MPG on the G and +5 MPG on the Versa.

Do you see a pattern?

Same gas same station same day.

Not all fill-ups are created equal!

As I continue to modify my car, I see a common trend, the mpg keeps improving, this is a sedan, 1st gen, probably has most problems for restricting power, but as I free up power, I'm noticing a consistent increase of 100km or so per tank... (60 miles) in mixed city / hwy driving.

I averaged around 21mpg so far, I just changed my plugs and installed the engine tourque damper over the weekend, still getting used the the increased sensations.

Why did he change the injectors? Injectors rarely fail and if they do, it's usually only one that would need replacement (the one that failed).

I'm glad to say that my G managed to get 300 miles on a full tank. It was getting great freeway mileage and the rest of the tank was city driving...

I will have my mechanic check the plugs...

thanks for your guys input

Thanks Andrew, I said the same thing when I first saw it on the dealer lot. I purchased it with tinted windows, a debagged trunk, aftermarket spoiler and it’s lowered about 1.5". What really made the deal was the twilight blue; navy blue has always been my favorite color.

I can't wait until I get rims and new tires, this G will be a real eye catcher...it already is

I've been debating on lowering my car, but figured it wasn't a good move considering the mean streets of LA. How do you feel the ride is with it lowered? U don't feel like you scrape too much??

Just curious how many miles were driven on the freeway and in the city? On the freeway I get 26 MPG cruising at 80, so if I pushed it almost to a complete tank, I could go for 500 miles. This past weekend I went to Chicago (4 hours busy freeway, toll roads), drove around Chicago for 2 days, and made it another 2.5 hours out of Chicago. 465 miles on one tank.

I'm with everyone else, not really sure why you had the injectors replaced. Spark plugs could be gapped incorrectly. Just take it back and tell them what's going on.

My mileage is about the same as yours. The G gets pretty good mileage on the road with cruise control and Air conditioning on. I've gotten close to 28 MPG on a couple of tankfulls on road trips to Florida a few times from NJ.

My front bumper scrapes everywhere, the worst is when I go over a bump and the bottom of the car scrapes the bump....
I wouldn't necessary recommended it, but it definitely gives the car a better look in my opinion.

Unfortunately I wasn't really paying attention to the city and the freeway mileage. I think I had like 130 miles at a bit more than a half of a tank and I finished the tank with about 310-320 miles.

The injectors were changed by my mechanic for free...

But why? As I said before, injector failures are pretty rare and when they do occur, it's usually only one injector that fails. And why would he do them for free as well? Something doesn't add up here.

You are the victim of a dirty salesman, quite possibly...

I had been warned on various forums when I had my altima as a DD, it was sworn that Nissans don't like fuel injector cleaners... period.

I hope this is not the reason for your poor mileage, I would take it back and say do you know cars or what?

That makes much more sense. Since it sounds like there is a sudden decrease in gas mileage, you might ask the dealer to take a look. The powertrain should still be covered by the warranty.

Sorry to hear about your injector & mileage issue.

This is the reason I no longer trust anyone but the dealer to touch my G.
Too many incompetent mechanics that know little about proper maintenance procedures for the G35. That mechanic may have charged less than an Infiniti dealer but how much $$$ did you waste with such low mileage as well as your time and aggrevation.
Not worth it in my opinion!
