Post Title: Sad modification story
Posted by: Sentientbydesign at 12:30 PM 9/1/2009

Some of you may have heard that Motordyne released an exhaust system. If not, go here:

http://www.motordyneengineering.com

This is the same company that "makes" the MREV2 and spacers.

Anyways, I found out about the exhaust a few months before it was released and tried working something out with Tony @ MD to get some sort of deal on his exhaust system. My goal was to buy a nice audio recorder and do recordings of the MD exhaust in it's various forms (it's modular-very interesting). Then do recordings of other exhausts with the same audio setup so that we'd have a nice ACCURATE collection on exhaust notes for NICO.

Well, I spoke to him. He was slightly interested, but wasn't going to give me much of a deal (remember, I'd be spending a few hundred on an audio recorder AND driving around 150-200 miles). I quickly found out that a high end audio recorder was going to put me back WAY too much and just let the idea of getting an exhaust die.

Recently, I did some work for a guy (installed a grounding kit, Stillen intake, MD MREV2, Aramid Gasket, 5/16th spacer). Then he asked me to do a brake swap for him (stock brakes to Brembos).

He offered me the MD exhaust in trade for my work. Which I accepted (thinking YES! I get my exhaust). Well, a little research and some family changes mean that my 4 month old son will likely be an unhappy camper in the back of my coupe if I install the exhaust

So I have a $1300 exhaust that I can't use.
Check out the link in my sig if you're interested or know somebody who might be. The exhaust is missing 2 V clamps which I will buy and ship if/when somebody buys this.

Thanks John.

I kind of wish the guy just paid me for the work instead of offering me this. It's really sad opening up my trunk and seeing all of the yummy SS goodness wrapped up in a blanket

post some pictures of this yummy goodness. you want to sell the midpipe?

I don't know if this will fit your G... Tony said it only fit the G coupe and the M35.

I'd rather sell the whole thing if possible. Unless you want to find others who want the gamma pipes and the piping in between.

So it'll bolt on directly to the y-pipe?

this is a Y-back exhaust. $777 exhaust, not $1300, unless you have the XYZ which is another $440.

It fits right up to the stock y-pipe or cats(if you have the xyz)

This system only fits the Coupe.

Nate....your son will be fine in the back seat with this exhaust. Unless you just want $$ for the thing, install it. It sounds great and you need an exhaust. Its not gonna be that loud unless you get TP with it.

Nate, I had the Greddy EVO2. It was one of the louder exhausts offered. I think a kid would have been fine in the back as long as you're not WOT all the time. Anyways, you shouldn't be getting WOT with a baby in the car.

Just install it. You will be happy, your wife will be happy, and babies adapt to their surroundings MUCH better than adults.

I can't wait to hear the post-install video.

Wow! Twice on 2 threads in 2 different forums.

The exhaust WITH the XYZ pipe goes for $1785. $1585 for the Shockwave TDX Ti + $200 for the gamma pipe upgrade.

The XYZ pipe goes for $450ish (varies between $440-$460 depending on where you buy it).

So. $1785-$450= $1335

I might do this just for s***s and grins.

The rear seat in my coupe is seriously loud with just tire noise. That's why I'm concerned about the exhaust volume. I might just go test it out and then make a determination afterwards.

I can't wait to go to the new suby dealership near my house and test drive a WRX hatch

Ewww... Hatchbacks are ugly!

I guess the prices went up on the exhaust from last time i saw them.

I think you need to install the exhaust. You baby will be fine. I know that the sedan is supposed to resonate exhaust 1000x worse, hence the briefcase resonator in the MP. My daughter loves the lull of the motor/exhaust. She goes right to sleep. Not too loud.

Kevin, you are the epitome of doucebag, but I still like you. There are only two people I get along with like you and the other one is a crazy, blacker than night, fear nothing, alcoholic, adrenaline junky, Marine.

On a side note, I did find my other buddy's weakness. Half a bottle of Jameson via irish car bombs hehehe. All 220 lbs of black man marine giggling on the floor.

I'll find yours soon enough

V band clamps were just ordered. Should be here by this weekend (hopefully). I'll install it (or probably just have a shop install it) and drive it around to see how the wife and baby like it. If they don't, stock exhaust is going back on and somebody better buy this thing (a couple of people are interested on the "other" forum

I still like the Rex Hatch or the STi (wife thinks she needs the extra power and sportiness of the STi )

Hmmm. That would be fun. Just buy the car from a dealer out your way. Have them give you the keys and then fly out there when you're done hehehe.

Unfortunately, I won't be making enough money any time soon to do that

He's been pretty inexpensive oddly enough. Daycare is going to kill us soon though. I'm looking at anywhere from $500-$1000 per month right there.

Here's a recent picture-

No clothes, means low baby cost!!! J/K

I'm going to sell the exhaust. I have a few people interested. This past weekend, I was going to install it, even had the two V-clamps rush delivered from Motordyne. Then we bought a larger car seat and I don't think I'll be able to keep my G coupe

If the little guy was front facing, things would be fine, but because he has to stay rear facing (should be until he's at least 20lbs, but over 1 yr old is better), it's a royal PITA getting him in and out and also taking care of him while on the go.

Bummer :/
but if you're replacing the G with a Subie, then I'd say that's a nice tradeoff

sad and happy story...

im sad about you not getting to use the exhaust but happy you have your priorities straight...

Thanks Kareem,

Exhaust (and a grounding kit! ) sold so I'll have money to put towards my son's savings account or possibly for his new room (mommy is going all out with paint and educational stuff).

I feel like a sell out for saying this, but I keep hearing WRX and STi's driving around with exhaust notes that sound exactly like I like.
