Went up to the track :)

Hey all,

Went up to the dragway this weekend, and unfortunately, I never had sufficient time to swap my rims, so I hit the track with 20s on... lol

I found I had the best time on my second run using the manual shift mode w/ reaction time of .59 I was able to get in at 15.11... But I can get these #s down boys so don't give up on the ol G35 sedan just yet, I have some tricks up my sleves for the next event, underdrive pulleys, thinking, or rather dreaming F/I... but also tinkering with No2...

Here's the slips... I entered in one time trial, and 2 runs in the racket bash... I think it went OK all in all... let me know what you guys think of my times, BTW, it was my first time racing, so I think I'll be going again and again... I'm hooked.

The slips...

The movie (pretty bad quality, sorry guys) Watch me get smoked by a bike with a 5 second head start.. wtf

http://video.google.ca/videopl...93638

Next time... I bring the 18"s..

HERES SOME PICS... some for you too zozo... lol

Power brake. Launch around 2200 rpm. You should be mid to low 14's. Well with stock rims atleast.

Also always let your car cool. Most people do it with their hood open.

Glad to see another G at the track. I really don't see many when I go. The only other infiniti Ive raced was a Q45 and I baked him. One time I saw a g37 there but the driver sucked. I wanted to race him bad but It was the only time I went to the track without my car.

I did launch right at 2200 in the video, it squealed on me, I lauched around 1500 for my best time of the day @ 15.11... I will probably be going again really soon, it sucked to have blinging 20s.

My friend had his turbo Integra running high 12s, and I saw an eclipse 4wd hit mid 10s.

Lots of american muscle there, really exciting... saw a Nova run flat 8s twice...

I agree, there isn't much for Infinities at the track One older fellow in a 87' Camaro came up to my window in the line up and asked, what kind of car is this?
I wanted to say, "here's your sign"

I thought about pulling my air filter off, and keeping the intake tube, what do you think about that? would the risks out weigh the benefit?

Good job taking it to the track. Swap tires for next time. See if it is going to make a big difference.

I'll have to go there once too.

Well done! The G-35 and 350Z are not drag cars, try as you might with them. But on a race track with windy roads, its a different story. Half of those cars you saw on the drag strip will have a hard time keeping up with a G-35 or 350Z on a track where endurance and handling is king . On a race track, its all about handling, endurance, and weight distribution which inspite of the G-35 Coupe's weight, is surprisingly balanced. Nonetheless, well done. Fortunately, i have my secret track where I to go to test out my G for handling Till date, no other car has come close to beating me on that secret track---only one Buick regal with very soft suspension and on a day i wasn't really ready for it was two car lengths behind me . I even go at it with motorbikes---its amazing how well the G-35 Coupe keeps up with those bikes on curves and turns but not on straight line acceleration

Your 20's are KILLING your times. You should be able to hit 14.2-14.6 really easy with the mods you got. What are the weights like on your wheels? I hit 14.3 with only a K+N air filter and Z tube like 2 years ago, I also had about 50 lbs of stereo equipment in the car. With all my mods on there now its a bit faster :D

Also, try letting some air out of your tires.

What RPM were you shifting at? Right at redline or a little early?

You definitely should be getting better times with what you have. But, you were a noob so it's understandable. Plus the 20's don't help.

What RPM's were you shifting at?

You mentioned taking off the air filter for next time. I say DON"T DO IT!!
I mean seriously, to shave off a maximun of probably 0.5 off your time and risk damage to the MAF...do you think that's a good idea??

Great pics!! I love seeing hyped up cars!!

Thanks for sharing!

I too was disapointed with my times, so I appreciate all the comments, good or bad... but being a noob has very little to do with it, my reaction times improved dramatically through the day, and I feel like next time it will be a whole different story... I did keep the air intake intact for reasons mentioned above, I didn't think it's worth the risk either.

20" wheels are the only thing holding me back, I understand I could squeeze even better times with the stock 17s, but my 350z 18"s will have to do. I plan on buying some slicks / track tires for the rear, and inflating them to around 20psi. I will overinflate my front tires, to allow more traction to reach the rear end. I know some people here have the underdrive pulleys, I plan to get some of those, test pipes (for track use) Electric fan conversion (well overdue) SBD grounding wires, remove rear seats, door panels, trunk carpet, subs, spare tire, etc, etc.

So anyway, the next track day is coming up next weekend I think, the only problem is I have to travel at least 350Km to the nearest track with my schedule, it's often hard to make the meets.

I was shifting at around 6700rpm in manual mode, squeezing as much as I could out of 2nd / 3rd. It really helped my times with the big wheels. But as the day heated up, so did my engine, and the final run (which was videoed) I kept it in "D"... so it was the slowest, I also couldn't seem to heat up my tires properly, it wouldn't brake traction.

Be careful with those slicks. I don't think you're pushin enough power, but I have heard of the rear axles snapping.

It's your car, so I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but I would suggest the lightweight pulleys over the underdrive. They allow for improved acceleration without compromising any of the crank systems (A/C, Alternator, power steering, brakes...etc). You'll still lose 4.5lbs of rotating weight.

Also let us know how the tire pressure things works. It sounds good in theory, but I can also see extra drag caused by the tires because of the lower psi.

I tried emailing you and it got sent back to me. So I emailed you again. Hopefully this one goes through.

Yep! Put the G on a diet and you will be splendidly surprised how agile it can get. Give it a few mods or pills to add more power, and it becomes a beast.

OK everyone, I'm going up to the track again this WEEKEND!!! If you could see me now!!! I'm pumped.

I'm going to swap wheels tonight, and get some last minute things taken care of... I will kick A$$ at the track on Saturday boys... hold on tight...

Should I try and sell my 20"s and find some lightweight set of 17s for the track?

Should I just sell my altima and get a turbo... lol, no seriously, it just sits around all the time, I can't help it. lol

What's the best option for drag racing, Supercharger, or FI, or N02? I know this has been discussed at legnth, however, considering I'm on a limited budget, what could one expect running the following...

50 shot NO2
12 psi turbo
7 psi supercharger

Any help would be appreciated

Also, I know how you feel about the underdrive pulleys... so I think I'll take your advice

You seriously want to pay that much for shipping?

If you do, I'll do it. I got your email. I'll get some shipping quotes and send them to you.

Actually Nate, I just had an idea, since I'm pretty sure I'll be running up to the track this weekend, why don't we try a lil testing?!? Let's just say this weekend I'll plan to run my current setup, and if I can get them down next week on regular shipping, I'll install and test n' tune at the track using your wires .

I would be running everything else virtually the same, so we can get a baseline, and build from there. What do you think!

Did you ever get around to the Dyno testing?

Sounds like a plan.

I need to find another dyno shop that doesn't charge $50/run and doesn't give me off the wall numbers. 255, 268, 273 with wires and a plenum spacer? Come on!

Once you get these on, I don't think you'll care if you were making more power or not hehehe.

Email me.

You're using a K&N; filter as well? I was surprised to see your #s as well... I went to DYNO last night, and they were booked solid, so I'll have to wait for next week I'm still ballin in my 20s anyway, so I will probably get better #s with the 18s.

Looking forward to the Wires nate! I'm going to do a before / after comparison with slips to prove

The track is an addiction. It so much fun. It gets you unexpectedly.

I say sell the rims for lighter ones. I want to get some 17s that are a little wider then the ones i have now.

NOS would be the cheapest option. Zex has a nice kit for the 350z for about $650. I'm sure it should work on our cars aswell. The did a test with it on a dsport issue. Gave like 65 WHP. I would rather have F/I. I say go Vortech SC or Turbonetics single turbo. Both are proven to be sex.

Nitrous kit with safety features is the best bet for FI. Its there when you need/want it and off when you don't.

RPM window switch ftw

NX makes the highest HP kits.

ZEX is the easiest to install

Both my kits were bastards I pieced together off ebay

I had Dynotune solenoids for stage 1 and nitrousworks solenoids for stage 2, both my heaters and 1 purge were Dyno tune , my bottles an the other purge were zex.
